Being Zealous for God
Galatians 1:13-14 ESV
“For you have heard of my former life in Judaism, how I persecuted the church of God violently and tried to destroy it. And I was advancing in Judaism beyond many of my own age among my people, so extremely zealous was I for the traditions of my fathers.”
Paul recounts his quest in Judaism and trying to protect the traditions of those before him. He was extremely zealous for the cause of God, and in his mind and heart he was doing the right things by persecuting Christianity. Only, Paul found out on the road to Damascus in a very dramatic form that he was wrong.
His conversion was quite extreme. But his life was completely turned around in a matter of days. He was saved, he was baptized and filled with the Holy Spirit all in three days time. After he was saved and filled with the Holy Spirit, he began his new quest immediately; preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ, 180 degree turn around. No wasted time, no time for seminary, no time for training in the proffesional since, he just started preaching Jesus.
We can be on all kinds of quests in our lives, thinking we are doing the right things, heading down what we think is the right roads, but still heading in the wrong direction. See what God has to say about your quest, see if His plans are different from yours. We may or may not see a great light like Paul did, but I believe God is just as fervent at bringing you into His plans.
Prayer:
Lord, it is never too late to see You clearly, to know Your perfect will for our lives. Lead me in the right pathways that for the rest of my life I glorify and magnify You to all those who around me.
