Proverbs 6:16-19 ESV
“There are six things that the Lord hates, seven that are an abomination to him: (The last two things God hates) “A false witness who breathes out lies, and one who sows discord among brothers.” “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor” is the ninth Commandment.
False witness, or spreading a false report, is associated with being driven by wickedness. A false witness is one who stands up and swears before others that something untrue is true, especially with the intention of hurting someone else or ruining his or her reputation.
Case in point with Jesus Christ, the Pharisees brought in false witnesses to testify against Jesus before the Jewish Council. In His mock trial, all the accusations against Him were false, but the Pharisees wanted to get rid of Jesus so they did whatever they could to destroy Him.
God also hates one who sows discord among the brothers and sisters. The brothers are anyone that has received Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. One who sows discord in the Body of Christ is an abomination to God.
Discord is defined as “strife, or disagreement, dissension, conflict, arguments, fighting or quarreling.” A person who sows discord is one who starts fights, stirs up problems, and makes trouble among people typically within the church. Most of the time, one who stirs up problems among fellow Christians does it for selfish gain.
Steven, in the New Testament, was doing a great job of taking care of the needs of the orphans, widows and the poor. He had a great witness among the people but as he testified of Jesus Christ. He came up against a group that could not match his wisdom so they plotted against him. The end results was they accused him of things he did not say and it ended up costing him his life. He was judged unfairly and sentenced to death.
Prayer:
Father, search me and know my heart today. If there is any wicked way in me remove it please.
