Do Not Fear, Only Believe
Mark 5:34-36, 39-42 ESV
“While he was still speaking, there came from the ruler’s house some who said, “Your daughter is dead. Why trouble the Teacher any further?” But overhearing what they said, Jesus said to the ruler of the synagogue, “Do not fear, only believe.”
And when he had entered, he said to them, “Why are you making a commotion and weeping? The child is not dead but sleeping.” And they laughed at him. But he put them all outside and took the child’s father and mother and those who were with him and went in where the child was. Taking her by the hand he said to her, “Talitha cumi,” which means, “Little girl, I say to you, arise.” And immediately the girl got up and began walking…”
1) The need was there, and Jesus was on the way.
2) Jesus already knew Jairus’s daughter was going to die.
3) Jesus commanded Jairus not to fear, replace fear with belief.
4) Jesus separated the room, those who did believe and those who did not believe.
5) Jesus didn’t remove the sickness, He had a resurrection in mind for this family.
I’ve learned a valuable lesson from this account. Jesus knows what I need, but I still have to ask. He calms my fears, asks me to replace fear with faith, then He can work His miracle in me. Sometimes he removes the obstacles in my life, sometimes he wants to bring a resurrection.
Prayer:
Lord, the need is there, and I ask for Your help. The first thing You ask me to do is stop fearing, dreading, worrying, or fretting, only believe. I will trust You that You know what the best way is. I’m ALWAYS astounded by Your mercy! In Your Holy Name Lord Jesus, Amen!
