What Can God Do Through You?

Jonah 4:9,11 ESV
“But God said to Jonah, “Do you do well to be angry…? “Yes, I do well to be angry, (said Jonah) angry enough to die.” And should not I pity Nineveh, that great city, in which there are more than 120,000 persons who do not know their right hand from their left…”

Jonah was told by God what he must do, but Jonah refused and ran away from his calling. He suffered in the sea and was swallowed by a great fish, where he asked forgiveness for his disobedience. God forgave him and Jonah ended up on dry land and did what he was supposed to do.

Jonah’s job? Preach repentance to simple people that had no idea they were sinners. They were just blindly doing what their ancestors before them, attack, plunder and pillage, and most of the time it seemed to be Israel. These simple people repented and God forgave them, but Jonah wanted them to be judged and condemned. Jonah was angry with God for forgiving them of their sins and atrocities that they had committed against Israel.

Here is the lesson for today: God forgave us for our sins and disobedience, in some of our cases, hundreds of times. If we are faithful to not pass judgment on others but forgive as we were forgiven, God will do extraordinary things through us.

Forgive, let God do a work, and see what He will do for you or even for those you look after. In Jonah’s case, Nineveh relented and turned and did not commit great sins against Israel for many many years. God did that using a reluctant Jonah, what can He do through you and me?

Prayer:
Lord, teach me to be willing, to be obedient, and to forgive as You forgave me. Perhaps in my total obedience, You will do great things through me.
