Proverbs 6:16-19 ESV
“There are six things that the Lord hates, seven that are an abomination to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue… “(2 things the lord hates, the rest will be in this week’s devotion.)
Haughty eyes: The word haughty is defined by Merriam-Webster as “blatantly and disdainfully proud.” Haughty is used in the Bible in the evil sense of “arrogant, setting ourselves above others; and lack of respect for others.”
When we are haughty, we become the center of our universe; everything revolves around us. There is little, if any, concern for what others think. Pride, haughtiness, is the trunk of the tree from which all other sins sprout.
Lying lips: Prime examples of lying lips; Not telling the truth about a wrongdoing:
•Withholding information that others need to have
•Eaggerating the facts
Implying that something is true, or purposely leading someone to an incorrect assumption, Telling partial truths, Not offering evidence against a wrongdoer when necessary. Committing to doing something with no real intention of following through
Solomon said in Proverbs 12:22. “Lying lips are abomination to the Lord: but they that deal truly are his delight.”
Prayer:
Father, remove the pride from my from my heart and all lying from my heart and lips.
