Let Your Light Shine
Matthew 5:14-16 ESV
“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”
I often get that blank look from people when I talk about witnessing. I get it, nobody likes conflict or to rub people the wrong way or even get into a theological discussion.
Here, Jesus says simply, “let your light shine before others.” That’s a really good place to start. Let people see who we are, not just who we say we are. Integrity is a good place to start. Let people see that our lives are a reflection of Christ’s glory, whether anyone is looking or not, let His light shine through us at all times.
Witnessing can be as simple as doing the works that God has given us to do. If it is giving, give cheerfully, if it is meeting needs then give all the glory to God as we are meeting those needs in people’s lives. Verbal witnessing can be as simple as stating what Jesus has done for us, or what Jesus means to us.
Let’s make our light shine to be on purpose and for a purpose, to show His glory. Don’t do things to bring glory to ourselves. When we bless someone, don’t look for the praise or even the thank you necessarily, just do things for God.
Prayer:
Lord, let our lights shine today. Let someone see You in us and give You the glory. Today when we do things for people, anoint us so our lights will shine and bring You the honor. It’s all for You lord, Amen!
