Thoughtful Foresight
Proverbs 20:3 AMP
“It is an honor for a man to keep away from strife [by handling situations with thoughtful foresight], but any fool will [start a] quarrel [without regard for the consequences].”
On Aug. 11, 2015, coach Todd Bowles walked into the New York Jets’ press room — unannounced. The urgency of the press conference was to announce that his starting quarterback would be out for the season and one of his starting linebackers would be eliminated from the team immediately for breaking the jaw of the starting quarterback.
It was called; The (Cheap) Shot Heard ‘Round the World: Jets starting quarterback Geno Smith would miss at least six weeks with a fractured jaw, (But it took much longer) the result of what Bowles called a locker room “sucker punch” by teammate IK Enemkpali.
The reason: Months earlier, Smith had accepted an invitation to be a guest at Enemkpali’s youth football camp in Pflugerville, Texas. Enemkpali shelled out $1,200 for plane fare and hotel. Smith never showed up. So, because of the $1200 and the temper of Enemkpali, he lost millions of dollars. He was cut from the Jets, broke the jaw of a friend, who did not recover from his injury that season. All for $1200, a drop in the bucket to a million dollar athlete.
He never even had a conversation with Smith, he just sucker punched him in the locker room. “It is an honor for a man to keep away from strife [by handling situations with thoughtful foresight], But any fool will [start a] quarrel [without regard for the consequences].”
Think things through before acting out or speaking! Be the bigger person, use common sense.
Prayer:
Lord help me to think every offense through and not be hasty to speak my mind or act foolishly out of anger. Teach me to defuse the matter, use COMMON SENSE, and act like a Christian should act.
