The Head and Not the Tail
Deuteronomy 28:2,13 CEB
“All these blessings will come upon you and find you if you obey the Lord your God’s voice: The Lord will make you the head of things, not the tail; you will be at the top of things, not the bottom, as long as you obey the Lord your God’s commandments that I’m commanding you right now, by carefully doing them.”
This is not hard, Israel (the generation that would enter the promised land) was told of these blessings by Moses. Moses was setting a precedence. He was basically saying; “If you want to be the head, dominate over the nations, in charge, have the nations in awe of you. Instead of being at the bottom, nations pushing you around, telling you what to do and how you can do it, and enslave you once again.
What you have to do is obey God, listen to God in your heart and in your head. Follow where He leads, stop doing your own thing. Obey His commandments.”
For us today, it is actually easier than ever to follow God. All our sins have been washed away by Jesus. We live under grace and not the law. We have God’s Holy Spirit living inside of us to lead and guide us and to show us God’s ways.
We have God’s words written all down in a book, for most of us, His words are on our computers, on our phones and easily we have over 450 translations for those that say His word is too hard to read and understand.
The missing ingredient? We have to want to read and obey. We have to want to follow God with our whole heart.
Prayer:
Lord God, I submit my will to You. I will read Your words, study Your words, live by Your words until I leave this life. Make me the head and not the tail, above and not beneath. In Your name Lord God I commit my life to You, Amen!
