Mysteries of the Kingdom

Matthew 13:11 ESV

“And He answered them, “To you it has been given to know the secrets of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given.”

What are these mysteries and why can some know them, and some do not?

First, the mysteries of the kingdom are truths that have been kept hidden for ages but is now disclosed in the Lord’s time to those He knew who would receive them. Truths such as the kingdom of God arrived when Jesus began His ministry. A truth such as the Gospel is for everyone, the Jew and the Gentile. Truth such as the Jews expected a visible kingdom and a king who would free them from political oppression, but the mysteries revealed that Jesus taught that the kingdom is invisible and spiritual on earth. Jesus proclaimed that the kingdom of heaven was at hand, it was present with Him. We believe when we confess our sins and receive Jesus that we are a part of the kingdom. Those of this kingdom will work to increasing the kingdom here on the earth.

Jesus said He used parables to reveal the truth to those who are receptive to His teachings and to conceal the truth from those who are hardened in unbelief and will not receive His teachings. We see this concept many times where a truth will be revealed and the spiritually intuitive will rejoice because of the revelation and others the words do not penetrate their hearts. Jesus often said, “he who has ears to hear let them hear.” some will hear, some will not.

Prayer:

Lord, the kingdom came to this world when You stepped out into ministry. Many believed and received while along side of them many heard but did not perceive and did not receive a citizenship into the kingdom. Help us as we proclaim the Gospel of the Kingdom. Open up ears to hear even to those that we have witnessed to a thousand times. In Your name Lord Jesus we ask, Amen!
