NO Condemnation
Romans 8:1-2 ESV
“There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death.”
I know people who do not serve God because they do not want to feel guilt or condemnation. My own brother told me one time that he could not serve God because he could not resist sin, and he could not live with the fact that he could not live up to God’s standards.
My brother was right in one sense, we cannot live up to God’s standards on our own, that is why Jesus died for us, and He strengthens and delivers us daily. Fighting against secret sins is impossible on our own. But that’s where Grace steps in.
Paul said in Romans 7:24, after several verses of agony that he could not break the power over sin, “Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?”
Then he says in verse 8:1-2, “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life has SET YOU FREE in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death.” There is NO condemnation. Jesus knows what each of us are going through. Stop agonizing, stop feeling guilty, stop feeling condemned.
We have been set free from the law; we are under grace. Jesus is fully God but also fully man. He was the perfect sacrifice to kill the sting of death and condemnation. He has set us free. And whom the Son has set free is free indeed (John 8:36).
My brother gave his heart to the Lord before he died, decimated as his body was, he couldn’t fight any more and I wish I could have saved him the pain of self-condemnation but I couldn’t. But Jesus took him home and explained it all to him. Thank you, Jesus.
Prayer:
All I can say after this Lord is, thank You Jesus for setting us free. Thank You for removing the guilt and condemnation. In Your name Lord, Amen!
