Those Outside Our Bubble
Acts 10:13-15 ESV
“And there came a voice to him: “Rise, Peter; kill and eat.” But Peter said, “By no means, Lord; for I have never eaten anything that is common or unclean.” And the voice came to him again a second time, “What God has made clean, do not call common.”
Peter was facing a new way of thinking. The old Jewish frame of mind said that anyone that was not a Jew was just a commoner, not worth their time and energy, even in Judaism. In fact, most of the high and mighty Jewish priests called Gentiles worthless dogs.
The Lord was showing Peter a new way of thinking towards people that were once considered outsiders. To illustrate to Peter this message, the Lord sent Peter a vision of a sheet descending from heaven full of all kinds of creeping things that the Jews would consider unclean to eat. The Lord said to Peter, “What God has made clean, do not call common (unclean).”
The message for us? We have to treat all people equally as important because they were created by God like we are. No matter how messed up the world is, God created everyone, some have just lost their way.
Our responsibility? To give them hope, and Jesus, everyone deserves that. We cannot make them accept Jesus, but we have to give them the opportunity!
Prayer:
Lord, don’t ever let me consider myself better than the man or woman on the street that does not know You. They just haven’t accepted You yet.
