How to be a Person that Knows God’s Heart
Psalms 119:15-16 NIV
“I meditate on Your precepts and consider Your ways. I delight in Your decrees; I will not neglect Your Word.”
David was considered, by God, as a man after God’s heart which means that David demonstrated a heart that reflected God’s character. He loved God deeply, he knew God held the key to his life, his successes and his future. How did David have that confidence?
David said that He meditated on God’s precepts. Meditation is like thinking about something over and over again. It is not empty thinking; it is pondering on a thought or an idea to make a personal application of the idea.
Precepts are instructions, guidelines or principles. So, if David meditated on the principles of God, He would apply these principles to his own life.
David said that he delights in God’s decrees. Decrees are God’s will, purpose and plans. David delighted in knowing the will of God, God’s purpose for his life and he trusted God for all of His future plans for David.
David finishes this thought with, “I will not neglect Your Word.” David was saying that he will not forget to stay in God’s word continuously, and he will not forget what God has said for him and everyone else.
There is a responsibility with knowledge; knowledge has to be put into practice, cultivated and shared to become wisdom. If we have the knowledge of God’s word, we will first apply it to ourselves and then share it with others so that they can benefit from it as well.
Prayer:
Lord, as we ponder Your words, enlighten our hearts to Your instructions and guidelines. We want to know all of Your plans and purpose for our lives as well as for the world, it would be our joy to know them all. We will not forget to look into Your Words and understand that Your Words are our daily instructions. In Your name Lord Jesus we pray, Amen!
