Distractions
1 Corinthians 7:35b
“…I want you to do whatever will help you serve the Lord best, with as few distractions as possible.”
Paul gives advice to the Corinthian church about marriage and being single, but he adds this comment in verse 35, part b, that intrigues me, “…I want you to do whatever will help you serve the Lord best, with as few distractions as possible.”
Serving the Lord the best way we can with as few distractions as possible. Paul is not saying our mate was or is a distraction but he was counseling the church on service to the Lord.
Often times things in a home can be distractions, we have to pay attention to bills and finances and possibly dealing with other people. Unfortunately for some, TV, the news, the government and the economy keep them spinning in circles. On those things we need to be current, but not burdened by them, to the point that they are a distraction. We have to understand ultimately God is in control WHEN WE GIVE HIM CONTROL.
There is a quote that says; “If the enemy can’t destroy you, he will distract you.” That is what he does! So, in our day to day activities, what keeps us from doing what pleases the Lord,? What distractions do we have, what keeps us from serving God the way we should serve God?
People and things are only a distraction if WE LET THEM be a distraction from the ultimate goal of serving God better.
Prayer:
Lord, I’m in control of me and my surroundings until I give You control. I can choose to let something or someone hinder my walk with You, or I can choose to take control and compartmentalize my life in the order of responsibilities. God first, my wife and family next, my church and then my career.
