Prodigal Son Part 2
Luke 15: 17-19 ESV
“But when he came to himself, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired servants have more than enough bread, but I perish here with hunger! I will arise and go to my father, and I will say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son. Treat me as one of your hired servants.”
I love the statement that this young man came to himself. That is the moment the lights came on, and the bells and whistles sounded. He had a startling revelation, and he realized that he knew a way out of his present situation.
Yes, his own doings are what got him into the hog pen. It wasn’t just life circumstances, he made his choices, but he came to his senses and realized he knew a way out. He knew his father cared, he knew his father loved him no matter what he did or did not do. He knew the father well enough to know that he would go to great links to help him.
He just didn’t understand the father’s love completely. He thought he would have to go back to his father and become a servant. That’s not how God works. Our Father is a loving Father. When we become His son or daughter, we are His children forever.
But like this young man, we often do the same things; we sin or make a huge blunder of things and we try to fix things our way. If we make a mistake, instead of trying to fix things our way, we need to get some humility, go back to the Father, and watch what He does.
Prayer:
Father God, when we decide to get out of the hog pen and we make the journey back to you, give us a proper perspective of who You are and how great Your love is for us. In Your gracious name Father God, Amen!
