Zeal for God
Romans 10:2 ESV
“For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge.”
Paul is saddened, that Israel’s zeal is not driven by a true understanding of who God is or what He wants from them. The zeal of the Jewish people was immense. They loved God and sought to honor Him and obey Him. However, the center of their thinking was of the work that they could do to earn a relationship with God.
Their openness of who the Messiah was to be, was skewed by their ignorance and interpretation of the promises of the Messiah. For us, we know in whom we believe. We know who Jesus the Messiah is, we know why He came. We know what He did to free us from our sin and the guilt of our sin.
Our knowledge has come from careful consideration of the scriptures, the right teachers, and from spiritual knowledge given to us by God to discern. Our zeal for God’s plan is to fulfill our destiny that He has for us. We run the race with strength, courage, and vitality.
The Father, Son, Holy Spirit, and God’s word should be everything to us, not just a whim or a side thought. It should be our passion, our life and meaning. Our zeal should wake us up with God on our mind, and our last thoughts should be of Him in the evening.
Prayer:
God my Father, ignite my zeal, give me a passion that is unquenchable, and unstoppable. Never let me lose the desire to know You more, speak to You more, listen to You more, and to be with You forever. In Your Mighty, Glorious name Father God, Amen!
