Where He Leads Me, I will Follow

Luke 9:57-58 ESV
“As they were going along the road, someone said to Him, “I will follow You wherever You go.”  And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.”

Our Lord was functionally homeless; He and His disciples stayed in the homes of those who would take them in. The scribes were among the wealthier citizens. It was as if Jesus were saying to this scribe, “Are you sure you want to be homeless with Me?” He wanted the scribe to truly count the cost of what he was proposing.

Many would-be followers of Jesus expected that He would soon set up His kingdom, and they wanted to be on the winning side to partake of the glorious victory. Jesus wanted the scribe to understand that to follow Him, there would be no earthly glory;

So what does it take to follow Jesus? To truly follow Jesus means He has become everything to us. Everyone follows something: friends, popular culture, family, selfish desires, or God.

We can only follow one thing at a time. Jesus said, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.” There is no such thing as a “halfway disciple.”

Prayer:
Lord, I’ve counted the cost, You alone have the words of eternal life. Where You lead me, I will follow!
