Expectancy

Psalms 5:3 AMP

“In the morning, O Lord, You will hear my voice; In the morning I will prepare [a prayer and a sacrifice] for You and watch and wait [for You to speak to my heart].”

“Listen to my voice in the morning, Lord. Each morning, I bring my requests to you and wait expectantly.” (NLT)

Did you know that most people do not expect to hear from God, except when something is prayed for, and it comes to pass in the way we wanted it to come to pass.

In this passage, David said that he talked to God in the morning, and when he had offered his praise and thanksgiving (his sacrifice) to God, he watched and waited for God to move and speak to David’s heart. David expected to hear from God. He didn’t wonder if he would, he expected it.

We should expect nothing less. This morning as I was doing my devotions, I came ready with a listening heart and a pen. The pen was for marking verses in the scriptures that I was reading, scriptures that I felt God was speaking to me this morning. As I meditated on the scriptures that I marked, I listened to God in my spirit to what He was saying to me.

Throughout the day, whatever we are doing, just talk to God, then listen in our spirit for His answers, or just listen for His direction for our day.

To make things simple; the other day I was in a conversation, and I had a reply for the conversation, but I was stopped in my spirit not to engage with the answer that I had formulated in my head, so I altered my response. You may call that a conscience or common sense, I choose to call it God speaking to my spirit.

Praying and expecting a response from God just takes a bit of listening, waiting. Waiting is not fun or easy but it will make the path smoother.

Prayer:

Lord, teach us to watch and wait. Teach us to be patient and listen, in prayer or just in our everyday activities. You speak volumes. In Your name Lord, Amen!
