New Things
Isaiah 43:19 ESV
“Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.”
God wanted Israel to follow Him wholeheartedly. Was that too much to ask for? If they would follow Him, seek His face, turn away from their past sins and idolatry He would show them His extreme blessings, honor, love and favor.
Human nature tends to repeat history. We typically do things the way we have always done them. We even often repeat the things we have watched others do that have taught us.
God wants mankind to break the cycle of doing their own thing, their own way, like they did in the past. No wonder He told Israel in 2 Chronicles 7:14, “…if my people who are called by My name humble themselves, and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”
God wanted to bless Israel abundantly. The crazy thing is, I believe if Israel as a whole would do what 2 Chronicles 7:14 says, right now, everything would change for Israel. The tide would turn.
God says in today’s passage, “I am doing a new thing, now it springs forth, DO YOU NOT PERCEIVE IT.” If I may paraphrase this, God is doing something new in everyone’s life, if we can’t see it, it isn’t God’s faul, it is ours for not paying close attention and expecting something new from the hand of God.
He continues, “I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.” In other words, if it looks impossible, it’s not impossible for God, it’s just impossible to us. God can do anything, anywhere, anytime, for anyone.
Prayer:
Lord, I believe that something new is coming, in fact, I’m expecting it to come. I have seen you work miracles, I have seen you provide when it looked impossible, I have seen You move in ways that I have never seen before. So, the only thing I’m looking for is for You to move in whatever way or fashion You so choose. I’m not looking for the way that You moved yesterday, last week, last month or last year. I have no idea what You are going to do or how You are going to do it, I just want to be ready to see Your handiwork and be amazed. In Your name Lord, Amen!
