Healing and Wholeness
Malachi 4:2 ESV
“But for you who fear my name, the sun of righteousness shall rise with healing in its wings. You shall go out leaping like calves from the stall.”
The Book of Malachi was written to correct the religious and social behavior of the Israelites, especially the priests in Jerusalem years after the return from captivity. I believe this is a word that we could use right now, the way the world is turning out. I would like to break this passage down to understandable parts. The promise is.
1. “…for you who fear my name…” this part is non-negotiable. Those who will have a reverent awe (respectful fear) of God and all that He is, both in character and in authority, are eligible for the promises that follow.
2. Most scholars believe that the “Sun of Righteousness”, is Jesus Christ and the reason He will come is the “Day of the Lord”. A day of vindication, cleansing, healing, restoration as well as cleansing the world of evil.
When King Jesus comes back to earth to bring God’s children home, it will begin an eternal celebration and rejoicing as well as a cleansing the world of evil. I also believe that Jesus rises with healing in His wings. Right now, for those who are true to put their trust in God, and who have that sense of awe and reverent fear of all that He is.
3. The last part of verse two may seem silly to some, but if we could see in the Spirit world all that happens when we are saved, restored, healed, filled with the Holy Spirit, and revived. I believe you and I would see some serious leaping and jumping and shouting in our inner Spirits.
We may not feel like jumping and leaping in the flesh, but I believe there are those today who are doing just that when they are singing, praising and worshiping the Almighty God.
Prayer:
Lord God, this morning as we bow down to You, as we read Your words, as we praise You in Spirit, and in truth. Let our inner Spirits leap for joy, like young calves just released from the stalls! In the Mighty name of Jesus we ask, Amen!
