Finding Peace
Mark 4:39 NKJV
“‘Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace, be still!” And the wind ceased and there was a great calm.'”
While it is great to see the storm around us calm down, it is even more important that our souls are calm in the midst of the storm. God has not promised to bring peace to every storm, but He has promised to give us peace through our storms.
The song “Sometimes He Calms the Storm” by Benton Kevin Stokes and Tony W. Wood beautifully communicates this truth:
“Sometimes He calms the storm
With a whispered “Peace, be still.”
He can settle any sea,
But it doesn’t mean He will.
Sometimes He holds us close
And lets the wind and waves go wild;
Sometimes He calms the storm,
And other times He calms His child.”
When we read the account of Jesus’ saying “Peace, be still” today, we need to remember that Jesus is always in control of our circumstances when we trust Him with our lives. When we find ourselves raging and tossing and turning on the inside. Jesus will calm the raging inside our souls.
Philippians 4:6–7 tells us what to do when we are in anxiety: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
While it is great to see the storm around us calm down, it is even more important that our souls are calm in the midst of the storms in our life.
Prayer:
Father I need peace in me, I need peace in my family, and peace in America! The disciples knew who could stop all the raging storm, it was You Lord. Please Lord, bring me peace.
