Blessings in Tough Times
Genesis 26:1-2, 12 ESV
“Now there was a famine in the land, besides the former famine that was in the days of Abraham. And Isaac went to Gerar to Abimelech king of the Philistines. And the Lord appeared to him and said, “Do not go down to Egypt; dwell in the land of which I shall tell you. And Isaac sowed in that land and reaped in the same year a hundredfold. The Lord blessed him…”
We live in tough times, there is no doubt about that. In tough times we have to hang on every word of God and pay attention to His voice in our Spirit. In this passage five elements demand our attention:
1) There was a famine in the land. Not a good time to make a profit.
2) Isaac was going to take care of his family by doing what he thought was the right thing to do.
3) Isaac obeyed God instead of trusting his gut instinct.
4) Isaac planted his fields in the middle of a drought.
5) God blessed Isaac with 100 times as much as he planted.
Everyone around him was jealous, but it was the blessings of God, and that is what Isaac portrayed, his God’s supremacy. To do that; Listen intently to God, obey Him completely and He will show Himself powerful in our lives.
Prayer:
Father, help me to stay in tune to you, keep my eyes on Your word, and to follow You wherever You may lead. Then I will prosper and have good success.
