The Lord is Near

Psalms 145:18 ESV

“The Lord is near to all who call on Him, to all who call on Him in truth.”

We often want the Lord to just wait around until we need Him. It doesn’t work that way, but it is the thought of many. Then David adds, “the Lord is near to all…who call on Him in truth.” What is calling on Him in truth?

This phrase means in sincerity and authenticity in our relationship with God. In truth implies a genuine, heartfelt plea. In other translations I saw words such as truth, integrity, sincerity, without hypocrisy and deceit. Calling on the Lord in truth means a relationship has been kindled between the seeker and the Lord. You could say that the Lord is near to the sincere, trustworthy servant, or the Lord is near to those who have a close relationship with the Him, because His attributes are living in the seeker.

Prayer:

Lord, search our hearts and know us, see if there is anything in us that separates us from You. I know that You are close to us and that You hear our call, we don’t have to be perfect, we just have to be forgiven and working on a relationship with You. Kindle the fire of Your Holy Spirit in us. We are not perfect on our own, but with You manifest in our lives we are one with You. Hear our call this morning, incline Your ears to us as we call out to You. In Your name Lord Jesus, Amen!
