In the Night
Psalms 63:6-7 ESV
“…when I remember You (Father God)…and meditate on You in the watches of the night; for You have been my help, and in the shadow of Your wings I will sing for joy.”
Reflections of good times gone by are what keeps our minds from going into the negative mode. David had his fair share of depressing times, and times when things went very wrong, but he also could reflect on the good times. This Psalm is a memory that gave him courage, strength and joy.
Hopefully we often think of the Lord in the night hours, especially when things get quiet. When things are going well and when things are not going well. It’s ok, God works in us when we are honest with ourselves.
We can’t fix everything in our lives, but we try. Try this instead, release those things that we can’t change, and give them to God. See what He can do, He will amaze us. Then, let’s let songs of joy sweep through our minds and hearts. Songs of praise, even silent praise will praise God, and we will sense that we are resting in the shadow of God’s wings, and we will find joy.
Prayer:
Lord, when I remember you in the night hours when things are dark and quiet. I often have a song of praise going through my mind. Lord, teach me to use those times to commune with You, to rest in You, to confide in You and to seek Your pleasure. In Your name Lord, Amen!
