Good Soil
Mark 4:8,10-11,20
“And other seeds fell into good soil and produced grain, growing up and increasing and yielding thirtyfold and sixtyfold and a hundredfold. And when he was alone, those around him with the twelve asked him about the parables. And he said to them, “To you has been given the secret of the kingdom of God, but for those outside everything is in parables…those (seeds) that were sown on the good soil are the ones who hear the word and accept it and bear fruit, thirtyfold and sixtyfold and a hundredfold.”
I tied these four verses together for a reason; Jesus is speaking a truth about God’s word that we need to hear and understand. The parable of the Sower brings a truth that was not just for the people of Jesus’s day, but for all days.
There are those that hear the words of God and try to gather them into their thought process, but this world’s issues and cares crowds those words out of hearts and lives.
Then there are those who hear or read the words of God and they accept them. They apply His words and then put them into practice in everyday life and because of their dedication and commitment to God by reading and understanding, they will reap a harvest of knowledge, wisdom, and blessings from the Lord.
Reading, or scanning as I call it, but never meditating on the truths of God’s words will leave a void. Reading, applying, thinking about the meaning of God’s words is a blessing on it’s own, but the Lord goes a step further and brings abundant blessings.
Prayer:
Lord, help us to always read, process, and think about the words we read from Your book, just like we had to do in school with our subjects to become informed and educated. Help us to apply Your words to our hearts and lives. Never let us miss a blessing of the fulfillment of Your words in us and through us. In Your name Lord Jesus we ask, Amen!
