Our Refuge
Psalms 37:39-40 ESV
“The salvation of the righteous is from the Lord; He is their stronghold in the time of trouble. The Lord helps them and delivers them; He delivers them from the wicked and saves them, because they take refuge in Him.”
This salvation that David is speaking about is saving us from things that are happening around us. Every time we are spared from an accident, or kept safe in times of trouble, or God has mercy on our children or loved ones, that salvation is from the Lord.
How is God saving us from the things of this world? He is our stronghold, or we could say He is our bolder that cannot be moved in a storm. As we saw this past hurricane season, these storms can bring such vile weather that trees, rocks, roads and houses are no match for the winds and flood waters that come after the storm, but our God is the one that sustains our life and holds us in the palm of His hands. Nothing can move God out of our lives.
David goes on and says that God delivers the righteous from trouble. How does He do that? When we put our trust in God, when we hold to His unchanging hand, when we choose Him no matter what is going on around us, He saves us, and delivers us. Sometimes, He walks with us through the fire like He did Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.
Prayer:
Thank You Lord for saving our lives, thank You for preserving us, keeping us, caring for us. There is none like You most Holy Father, no one can save like You do. We take refuge in You this morning Father God, Amen!
